The American Friendship Residential School (AFRS)
The American Friendship Residential School (AFRS) was established in 1982 by Mr. Panduranga Rao, with the goal of blending American educational values with Indian culture. This vision was inspired by the Indo-American Friendship Association, a group in the USA that aimed to bridge the gap between the two cultures. With Mr. Rao and his partner, Mr. GB Ravikumar, driving the project forward, the school officially began operations in the mid-1980s and became known for its excellence in education, producing a number of notable alumni, including political figures.
Mr. Balaji Pothraj, the CEO of House of Pothraj, was a student at AFRS in 1982 and witnessed the school’s rise to prominence. However, in 1997, Mr. Ravikumar moved to the United States, which led to a decline in the school’s performance. By 2002, AFRS unfortunately closed its doors after having reached its peak.
In 2003-04, Mr. Balaji Pothraj revisited the school and discovered that it had fallen into neglect and disarray. Determined to restore its legacy, he acquired the school and began working on plans to relaunch AFRS to bring it back to its former glory. Today, the school is being revitalized with the same commitment to excellence, providing students with a blend of international education and cultural richness. The legacy of AFRS is being reborn, focusing on creating a nurturing, well-rounded environment for young minds to grow.
The school’s upcoming reopening marks the beginning of a new chapter in its storied history, with a renewed focus on quality education, disciplined growth, and holistic development.
Additionally, the group has contributed to the development of Royal Concorde International School by delivering exceptional infrastructure for the institution to operate seamlessly. While not a brand of the group, the building provided by the House of Pothraj reflects their dedication to enabling institutions to deliver high-quality education.
